What we offer
Diet and dental health
We all know that diet is an important factor in maintaining the health of our bodies in general, but it can also be important to dental health in particular.
Sugar is an obvious and often-cited culprit in tooth decay. Sugar consumption contributes to the rapid progression of tooth decay. Even apple juice in a baby bottle, if left in the mouth for long periods, can cause severe decay.
Maintaining a proper diet consisting of a balanced intake from the four basic food groups will improve dental health and general health, but other, less obvious nutrients can affect our dental health, as well.
Diets low in nutrients reduces resistance to infections. Dr. Jamie Sands and Dr. Jason Sands feel a healthy immune system is essential to controlling periodontal disease. Although periodontal disease is not directly caused by a dietary deficiency, it’s commonly believed that it’s less likely to occur, and heals more quickly, if you follow a healthy diet.
Dr. Jamie Sands and Dr. Jason Sands recommend a balanced diet, daily use of fluoride, daily brushing and flossing and yearly dental visits to prevent your chances of tooth decay and increase the longevity of your teeth.
